Pre-K Use Their Senses!

Pre-K has been using their senses to learn about their world!  They have been using sight to observe objects; touch to describe how things feel; and smell to decide which smells are the best!

The shells look and feel so bumpy.

Do they have a smell?

Kinetic sand is so squishy.

It sticks to my hands.

I'm making a pancake.

The magnifying glass makes everything bigger.

Pre-K is also meeting the many critters in the science room.

The snail have two eyes on the top of it's head and two feelers
underneath.
It's so big!

Where are you going?

Red wiggler worms...wiggle a lot!

They like to try to escape.

They are slimy.

The move slowly.

Mealworms are different from red wigglers.

It holds onto my finger.

They are smaller than the red wigglers.

Mystery bags!  What does it feel like?

Touch bags.  What does it feel like?

This feels like a ....

Which materials feels rough? Smooth? Sticky?

What feels smooth?

This feels bumpy.

I found them all.

Mystery smell bottles!  What is this smell? Sweet? Spicy? Orange?

This smells like orange.

This is the pepper!

I like this smell!

Pre-K Uses Their Senses!

Pre-K has been using four of their senses - see, hear, smell and touch - while exploring objects in science.  They are also observing some of the science critters and learning how to handle them!

Making observations.
The log feels smooth and bumpy.

The snail is eating the carrot!

The snail is slow.

The mealworms can move fast!

Using a magnifying glass makes them look bigger!

To touch or not to touch?!

I think it's eating.

They love to hide under the tent!

It has legs!
Pre-K focusing on their sense of touch, put their hand in a mystery bag and tried to determine what the object was by the way it felt.  Often, the temptation to look in the bag before deciding what the object was, was too great! But they all had fun in the process and learned new words to describe objects!

What is in bag 4?

I think it feels round.

It's squishy!

The pine cone is spiky!

A sea star!

It's a spoon!

The worm is long.

It feels slimy!

Earthworms are captivating!

Pre-K Use Their Senses!

Pre-K is discovering that they use their senses every day!  A lot of the time, they are using more than one sense! Over the past month, we have explored our sense of taste, smell and hearing.

Oh how everyone loved taking the apple taste test!  We were seeing which color apple tasted the best.  The Pre-k classes realized that when they were tasting the apples, they also touched the apple (it was smooth) and smelled the apple (it smelled good).

Then we drew a picture of the apple that tested the best to us.

And then placed the apple picture on the graph.  Sometimes it was hard to choose which color tasted the best....so all three were chosen!

Looks like red tastes best for this class!
The mystery hearing jars were fun and a little tricky!  Shake the jar and match and the sound to the picture!

The mystery smelling jars were delicious smelling!  Well, all of the jars smelled good except for the pepper!  That was spicy!

Everyone wants to do another taste test!  What would we taste? Pears and chocolate were some suggestions!
