Summer Vacation 2019

It's hard to believe that summer is just about over!  I had a wonderful time walking in the woods, swimming in the ocean, reading and visiting my friends in London.

While in London, I was thrilled to see Olafur Eliasson's exhibition at the Tate Modern.  He is one of the creators of the Little Sun solar lamp!

"Beauty", fine mist in a dark room with a spotlight.

"Moss Wall", reindeer moss, a lichen native to
northern latitudes.

"In Real Life", illuminated from inside projecting shadows and
light outside.

"Your Uncertain Shadow", colored spot lights
projected on a wall. When people walk past the
lights, their shadow appears on the wall.

The components to make a Little Sun solar lamp.

I also got to spend the morning at the Natural History Museum.  What an impressive building.

Blue whale skeleton in Hintze Hall.

Giraffe and giraffe skeleton.

The stunning "Museum of the Moon" by Luke Jerram.

Charles Darwin.

Gems and minerals.

Specimens from Darwin's travels.

Darwin's Origin of the Species.
Lastly, some photos of the critters and objects I saw this summer!

I hope you all had a fantastic summer!  I can't wait to hear about your adventures!

Look at PS58's Garden Grow!

Thank you to all the families that helped take care of our school garden this summer!  It was a hot summer and our garden needed a lot of watering!

Our tomatoes and peppers are still growing!  Our herbs look fabulous and green!  We even have some onions!

We have some plum tomatoes growing!

Our nasturtiums are on their second round of growth!

Still growing!

Lots of cherry tomatoes!

A green pepper!

We have lots of mint growing.

Our lavender is thriving!

The squirrels don't seem to be interested in the onions.

Basil for our cafeteria!

Parsley and more parsley!

Welcome Back!

What a great first few days of school!  It has been so much fun hearing about all the wonderful things you all have done this summer.  Amazing trips both near and far, critters caught, fabulous camps, ocean and lake swimming and so much more!

Here are a few things I saw this summer in Brooklyn, New Hampshire and Nantucket!

In Brooklyn I saw...

A swallowtail butterfly!

A dragonfly with transparent wings.

Big mushrooms!

I'm still not sure what type of caterpillar this I found
walking along the sidewalk!
 In New Hampshire I saw.....

My daughter found a fast, little toad.

I took a walk in the New Hampshire woods
every day.

I took my dog, Delilah, to the lake to swim.
 On Nantucket I saw...

Seagulls searching for food.

Horseshoe crabs.

I swam in the ocean every day!
 Back in Brooklyn....

A swallowtail caterpillar!

Mysterious foot prints at the pond in the
Brooklyn Botanic Gardens.

A bee and a fly sharing a flower.

I have never seen a brown praying mantis before!

The most incredible clouds I have ever seen!
